Company Profile
Nearly 12 million Americans suffer from peripheral arterial disease (PAD), and professionals predict that by 2050 this number will rise to 19 million. Of these, approximately 750,000 PAD patients suffer from critical limb ischemia (CLI), a condition for which there currently is no treatment option that consistently opens arterial occlusions (blockages).
There are currently three main options that physicians consider when treating PAD patients: interventional treatments, intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) devices, and drug therapy. While balloon angioplasty is considered the gold standard for treating advanced PAD, the long-term success rate is a mere 36%, primarily due to re-occlusion. None of these treatments is able to effectively treat the CLI patient reduce the alarming amputation rate.
As a result, some 187,000 Americans undergo amputation of a lower limb every year. They are considered no-option patients.
PerAssist is developing PeriBoost™, a device that offers a viable treatment option for patients facing lower limb amputation due to complications of advanced peripheral artery disease - patients who are not candidates for angioplasty, atherectomy, or bypass. PeriBoost is based on an innovative method to improve blood flow to the lower limbs of patients suffering from PAD. |
